The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is continuing its efforts to revitalize the citrus industry, working closely with farmers to boost production and meet future market demands.

Speaking in an interview with the Agency for Public Information (API), Minister of Agriculture Saboto Caesar highlighted the growing importance of citrus in the national economy.

"And we continue to work with the citrus farmers of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. We are aware of the expansion of the hospitality industry — you are seeing more rentals on the road, more hired cars and jeeps on the roads of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. We have more rooms available, and we are also hearing of the expansion of the hospitality sector. With that, there is going to be a need for more food. You go to a bar, and you have to have the lemon; you have to have the lime. And on the breakfast tables, you will need the oranges and the grapefruits."

Minister Caesar also expressed optimism about the resurgence of citrus farming across the country and praised local farmers for their renewed commitment to the sector.

Caesar has called for even more farmers to get involved in citrus production.

"And I'm really happy that we have an exceptional cadre of multi-talented and multi-faceted farmers within the citrus sub-sector, and it is definitely an encouragement to younger farmers to produce more citrus in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. We should be having a study tour to Dominica over the next month, and we are going to take several persons to that country who are interested in expanding their production of citrus."
