The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has seen an increase in demand for broiler and layer chickens by the Vincentian public.

Word of this came from Portfolio Minister Saboto Caesar while speaking on Radio this week.

The Minister said in light of this demand a vast among of chickens are expected to arrive soon for distribution.

"We have an order right now for over thirty thousand day-old chicks to be brought in the country between broilers and layers and that's not enough for the demand for the people. People building small pens we are going to be on the road, the Ministry of Agriculture is going to be on the road."

Minister Caesar also indicated that the Farmers Support Company will be strengthened so as to enhance the services provides to Farmers.

"We are working to ensure there's a better process administratively, an easier process for persons to understand and appreciate as it pertains to getting your Farmer's ID. We are working with increasing the communication. There's a discussion of having a hotline, where a farmer could call and there would be at the FSC a clearing house where the messages will be sent on to the extension staff and would follow up with that farmer to make sure that Farmer that the extension officer come. Because we have to up the provision of our services to the Farmers. The farmers of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the fishermen are working very hard and without them we would have no food security."
