As the shortened hunting season for mammals, reptiles and birds continues on mainland Saint Vincent, an appeal has been made for hunters to desist from hunting in areas which have been designated as Forest Reserves and on private property.

This appeal was made by Director of Forestry, Fitzgerald Providence. This year’s hunting season for mammals, reptiles and birds opened on October 1st and ends on December 31st.

Providence said hunters should not hunt animals found on forest reserves, as these areas have been established to ensure the protection and continuation of these animal species.

He also appealed to hunters to not catch animals with babies.

"Do not capture animals with young, we know the Manicou or the Opossum will be seen with young, we ask persons to not capture these animals also we ask persons not to go into reserve areas to hunt these include the Vermont Saint Vincent Reserved Parrot Area, also the Cumberland Forest Area, the King's Hill Forest, these are the reserved for the main land and also persons who trespass on privately own lands, the owners don't want persons coming onto their lands to hunt animals, so we are asking persons to desist from entering privately owned lands to hunt".
