Farmers have the opportunity through the Ministry of Agriculture and the Republic of China on Taiwan to have educational tools to be competent agricultural workers and farmers.

A workshop on Smart Agriculture Techniques was held on Friday, August 2nd, at the Fisheries Complex Conference Room.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Nerissa Gittens remarked “This session for us should be a significant one.” The session is geared towards strengthening our current technique practices and how to transmit the learned information to the stakeholders.

The Permanent Secretary stressed that the Ministry of Agriculture is on a mission to attract young people. She added that there must be appealing mechanisms to keep their attention and motivate them to become farmers.

It is essential that correct information is given so that accurate information is passed on to the young farmers who are capable of questioning the information’s validity. Moreover, having young farmers is not only a path of sustaining farming practices but to create self-employability.

Gittens urged the participants to be an active participant in the sessions and to ask questions.  In closing, she thanked the Republic of China on Taiwan for their unwavering support.
