Tuesday, 5th December, 2023- The Caribbean Agricultural and Research Institute (CARDI) celebrated CARDI Day by hosting an exhibition at the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Postal Corporation Parking Lot in Kingstown.
According to CARDI Country Representative to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Agricultural Officer Donawa Jackson, the objectives of the exhibition were to engender greater public awareness of the current research and development work of CARDI and to provide a platform for stakeholders to showcase their work in the area of value addition.
On display were crops on which research has been done, ongoing and all of which are contributing to agricultural development. Notable crops which were featured include dasheen and various lines of sweet potatoes as well as crops of different varieties/cultivars in the CARDI’s germplasm collection at CARDI Field and Research Station; cassava, banana, and plantain.
Agro-processors also displayed their refined products of the featured crops.
Educational materials including factsheets, pamphlets, banners, brochures and storyboards were central to the exhibition.
Various schools in the immediate vicinity of the exhibition participated in the opening ceremony.
Remarks were delivered by Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Montgomery Daniel and Chief Agricultural Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries, Rural Transformation, Industry and Labour Renato Gumbs and CARDI Country Representative Agricultural Officer Donawa Jackson.
