The Quality Assurance and Production Development Unit assumes responsibility for the organization of all tasks relating to the assurance of the quality of fish and fish products. The inspection, testing and monitoring of fish and fish products for local consumption as well as for export is one of this unit’s main tasks. The unit is also responsible for inspecting fisheries establishments and the issuing of the appropriate certificates and licenses. In terms of product development, the unit offers advice to veteran and prospective producers of fishery products in the areas of quality, hygiene, and sanitary standards. Additionally, the anthropological and natural disasters, which may correlate with adverse affectation of the health and safety of fish falls under the ambit of this unit.
