The Biology and Research Unit carries out theoretical and practical research with the aim of developing new, sustainable fisheries and new or improved management strategies. Biology and Research gathers information through various media. The unit also designs and executes projects that aim to gather raw data on fisheries interests that have not yet been studied. Additionally, the unit liaises with relevant regional and international organizations for further information gathering and collaboration on projects. One of the unit’s largest programmes is the continual biological and ecological assessment of all utilized marine species to help determine sustainable levels of exploitation. The unit also supports all other units with research aspects of their work.
